I could make that...

Being a poor uni student I often see things I love but sadly cant afford often i find myself looking at the price tag and thinking "I can make that." so here's a list of all the things I've seen recently that I want to try and make in the coming weeks.

Leather bracelet from pinterest: this looks easy enoughits just a leather cuff with one side wraped to make a bow.
Feline crafty earings- modcloth : I am in love with these, looks like I will have to learn to crochet

Again from pinterest that place is a treasure: lace and chain

I saw some small utensil charms at spotlight the other day, I would like to have a go at making a baking theamed necklace.

Im not entirly convinced I would ever wear this but isn't it charming? inch by inch pin- modcloth.

So they are my jewelery projects for the week, I'm hoping I will fit in some sewing time as well.

to finish off this post here are some pieces of jewelery that I could never make but they are just captivating.

A lighter on a ring! I don't smoke but I find this charming all the same.

Apparently there's a whole series of food themed rings.

Gas mask! Are you my mommy? (sorry couldn't resist)

I want this so badly it's not even funny.

There you go, until next time Adios.

Thrifty sewing

Many of my sewing projects get started either because I want an item of clothing but can't find it in the shops anywhere or I see something in a shop that I want desperately but can't afford being a poor student. What ever the reason I never sew something that I can buy for less than I can make it (t-shirts and singlets just aren't worth the time and money). I always try to sew for as little cost as possible and these are some things I have found very use full in doing that:

1. Free online patterns. my favourite and most use full pattern is the coffee date dress pattern which can be downloaded free from here it has a basic bodice pattern that can be used to make almost any dress by changing the neckline and skirt. Burdastyle also has many other free and cheap downloadable patterns.
2. Friends and family. Once everyone knew that I sew i got heaps of donations from people i knew who used to sew and had lots of things that they were never going to use. I got material, patterns and in one case a free dress makers mannequin.
3. Op shops. These have lots of patterns and material. If you like vintage sewing (like i do) you can find lots of 80s does 20s patterns and maybe even some originals. they also have lots of dresses in amazing fabrics that can be done up, up-cycled or cut up and made into something new.
4. Your closet. Im sure there are a lot of clothes in your closet that you don't wear/ don't fit any more. ( there are in mine) cut them up and re-use.
5. Mix and match patterns. I often use a few different patterns when I'm sewing because i like the skirt on one, the collar on another and the sleeves on a third, and i don't see the point in owning multiple patterns that only differ in one aspect.

What a lot of writing! i will be sure to post some pretty pictures shortly.
